Let’s do this 2012!


Resolutions are in effect. Bed, Bath & Beyond was filled with people getting organized, the gym was packed at 2pm (I’m assuming many were like me and enjoying the last day before returning to a work schedule) and Fairway was a zoo {no lie, as I type this – there’s a segment on grocery shopping, buyers remorse & saving money … at Fairway on CBS news}. 

I was never good at establishing resolutions. I more often than not made lists that were part resolutions part wishes …and then stashed that list away – not necessarily 

2012 is going to be a big year. I like Rachel’s approach of choosing a verb for the upcoming year.
I think last years would be : unbury. This year:
StructureConstruct or arrange according to a plan; give a pattern or organization to. 
Whether it’s go with the flow in social settings, being quick on my feet in my work, or flexible in my game plans… something I could use more of in all areas is structure. I’m a mix of Type A & Type B personalities and it’s time for Type A to create the structure and planning for Type B adventures.
So without further ado:
1. Run NYC Marathonthis will lead to many more goals 
2. Raise money for Team for Kids – I have to raise $2,620…I would like to surpass this….and get more involved in a cause I care about.
3. Strength traindidn’t you hear? Strong is the new skinny
4. Build arm strength – I want to be able to do proper push-ups and tones of yoga poses. This is without a doubt one of my “trouble zones”, not only is it one of my least favorite body parts but they’re weak too. 
5. Floss regularlyI learned my lesson on neglecting this one
6. Cook one new meal a month – I have a habit of bookmarking recipes…only to never cook them. I’ve been in my apartment over a year and never used the oven (to be fair neither did my roommate).
7. Aim for more balanced dinnerssee above. Dinners have always been my problem meal. I’ve got oatmeal, omelets, peanut butter on anything & veggies + hummus down. 
8. Repair injuries – right shoulder, right groin, left knee (<<focus>>) left IT Band, left hip. 
9. Make my 11/11/11 wish come true. It may end up being modified but it’s past due and needs to happen now. And in true form only I can make it happen.
10. Do wheel pose in yoga – I always stay in bridge during this part of class (see #3 & #4). It’s a fairly basic pose that has haunted me even when I was little in gymnastics.
11. Make smart financial decisions. Not necessarily budgeting but rather overall smart decision-making in many aspects.
12. Include more veggies in my diet. I want to get a little more creative in sneaking in more veggies … any ideas how to get them into breakfast??
13. Drink more water. I definitely don’t drink enough and am often dehydrated…and I wonder why I can’t use enough lotion in the winter.
14. Try out new fitness classes. There’s a long list of this, I’m a big fan of fitness classes except my attendance record would show otherwise.
15. Get involved in the health & wellness community. (Please see #1, #2, #9, & #14). I miss teaching children’s yoga – it’s not something I would make a career out of but whether it’s events like Girls on the Run or volunteer yoga, there are tons of options and I want to join in the fun.
Of course under these 15 goals lies many little ones but those will come to surface as I layout plans & put them into action.
