Random Thoughts || Goodbye November

Did you know that November is National Diabetes Awareness month ?
Because it is.

Therefore, you should read my page sharing a little bit about my experience.

In other news:

Today was a PR for fastest morning run.

2.59 miles (I didn’t say it was long) in 24:30min 

And for number of morning runs per week since August. 

Yeah, about that …

Tomorrow marks my 3 year anniversary at my company.

Just saying…
I have a second chance at making my 11/11/11 wish come true Friday.
My co-worker said if I make it happen that I get Ryan Gosling ….I told her she better know people & make it happen.

I can’t hear out of my left ear.

Like at all.

The next available appointment at the doctors is Monday.

Attempting (safe) home remedies.

It all goes together

  I didn’t listen. 

In fact, I haven’t been very good at following that rule of thumb (who came up with that expression?) in a while. Yes, a morning run on Monday was a big step for getting back on track but the blood sugars killed that idea this morning.  What about after work you ask…

I didn’t have it in me. It was a long, emotional, draining day at the office.

I know that exercise is a stress reliever &  a cure for bad moods. But already being in a “rut” it seemed like triple the energy and it wasn’t about a stress relief.

But this is why I’m setting goals and plans – to stop from these easy outs & excuses. 

To be truthful I didn’t know if I would be able to hold it together on the treadmill tonight.

I’ve been down this path before and it seems it all goes hand in hand in a cycle :

blood sugars, exercise, stress, happiness, motivation, healthy choices.

If you get exercise in line than the rest seems to follow. 

But for tonight, I’ll consider it a success that I didn’t take a spoon straight to the

chocolate soy nutbutter

Instead I settled for a good serving on two crackers.

It’s like Nutella only less sugar …and no hazelnuts….whatever you get the idea.

It’s chocolate and it’s good.

Other key elements for the night : More Ellie Goulding & Adele stations , a hot shower & this awesome letter to Ryan Gosling.

What a morning !

  • I picked snooze button over run (yeah this trend needs to end)
  • I dug out my iron to put together a professional outfit for an out of office meeting
  • Just as I was headed out the door I learned meeting was moved to tomorrow
  • Jumped right out of that outfit and into jeans so that I could wear it tomorrow (we’re a super casual office)
  • Than as I was headed out for the 2nd time (already missing the bus) my blood sugar crashed
So now picture : me grabbing my gym bag, purse & iced coffee, pouring out glucose tablets & downing them, ripping open a Cliff Z bar , and trying to fix my strappy sandals while I was on the move (ie: each landing point on the stairs).
Pretty sure that’s what you describe as a hot mess.

All Nighter

I’m just leaving the office. For most it’s lunchtime. Lunch outside of the office is a rarity all on it’s own (can count the number of times in the past 3 years). But I’m leaving for the first time since arriving at 9am….yesterday. Yep, 27.5 hours. My first full post-college all nighter on a project.

Again, not uncommon in my office – just usually not a part of my role.

But the thing I’m most surprised by is how well I kept up. I’ve pulled many nights past midnight. They usually add to extra trips to the M&M jars. Or snacking on someone’s left over chips & salsa {ok interruption: I just paid $4.25 for a small iced coffee – WTF?!}. But this time I did binge from exhaustion. I didn’t start to crash until 10am and only had a few extra chocolates and drank more water than coffee.

I know I’m not the only one with crazy hours at the office…how do you stay clear headed & keep from throwing healthy decisions out the window?

And I know it’s NYC & all and am willing to splurge on coffee but $4.25 for a small?? Really?? Apparently I’m not that clear headed.

Early morning motivation

So this happened yesterday morning:

before work!

I work 9am – 7pm in an office M-F. At minimum. My role is really more a 24/7 gig but I’m required to be at the office for those 10 hours everyday and often succeed it with lots of overtime. Needless to say, it’s not always easy to find gym time.  I’m much more of a 10pm exerciser than a 6am, so despite my good intentions of setting an early alarm it usually just equates to an extra hour of hitting the snooze button.

However, yesterday an international client decided to help motivate me:

only the clock read 4:30 am. 

After dealing with the crisis for a solid 2 hours I was ready to run. I knew there was no going back to sleep or I would never get back up. Plus, I saw the sun rise and it’s fully summer weather in NYC.

It wasn’t the longest or fastest or bestest {go with it} run but there’s something to be said about being part of the early morning crowd.  I now understand Ali‘s love of taking pictures of the East River.  But really it was this mantra from Tina that kept me going – the promise of an extra ice coffee from a new favorite cafe.

Side note: Picked up some cherries from a fruit cart on my cool down. Wasn’t really sure that I actually liked cherries but they’re amazingly fresh and delicious …besides the whole pit thing…that I could really do without.
